India’s Infrastructure Boom: ₹50,700 Crore Green Light for 8 High-Speed Road Corridors!

In a significant move to enhance the country’s infrastructure, the Indian government has approved the construction of eight high-speed road corridors. The ambitious project, with an estimated cost of ₹50,700 crore, aims to improve connectivity across various regions of the country, spanning a total length of 936 kilometers. These corridors are expected to not only save travel time for commuters but also reduce distances between several key cities, leading to considerable fuel savings.

Boosting Connectivity and Reducing Travel Time

The new corridors will benefit cities including Agra, Gwalior, Kanpur, Lucknow, Kharagpur, Morgram, Raipur, Ranchi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Nashik, Ayodhya, and Guwahati. The announcement was made by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a press conference on August 2.

Agra-Gwalior National High-Speed Corridor

This 88-kilometer corridor, developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, will be a fully access-controlled six-lane highway with a total cost of ₹4,613 crore. It will enhance connectivity between major tourist attractions in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, cutting travel distance by 7% and reducing travel time by 50%, significantly lowering logistics costs.

Kharagpur-Morgram National High-Speed Corridor

The 231-kilometer four-lane access-controlled corridor will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) at a cost of ₹10,247 crore. This project is set to increase traffic capacity by nearly five times and cut travel time for freight vehicles from 9-10 hours to 3-5 hours.

Tharad-Disa-Mehsana-Ahmedabad National High-Speed Corridor

Spanning 214 kilometers, this six-lane corridor will be developed under the BOT model with a capital cost of ₹10,534 crore. It will improve connectivity for freight vehicles from industrial areas in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan to major ports in Maharashtra, including the newly approved Vadhavan port.

Ayodhya Ring Road

The 68-kilometer four-lane access-controlled ring road will be developed under the HAM at a cost of ₹3,935 crore. This project aims to facilitate swift movement for pilgrims visiting the Ram Temple and provide connectivity to national and international tourists from the Lucknow International Airport, Ayodhya Airport, and major railway stations.

Raipur-Ranchi High-Speed Corridor (Pathalgaon-Gumla Section)

This 4-lane access-controlled section, developed under HAM with a cost of ₹4,473 crore, will enhance connectivity between mining areas in Gumla, Lohardaga, Raigarh, Korba, and Dhanbad and industrial zones in Raipur, Durg, Korba, Bilaspur, Bokaro, and Dhanbad.

Kanpur Ring Road

The 47-kilometer six-lane access-controlled section, developed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model at a cost of ₹3,298 crore, will complete the six-lane national highway ring around Kanpur. This will improve logistics facilities between Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

Additionally, projects around Guwahati and Pune are also set to commence, further boosting the nation’s road infrastructure and connectivity.

These projects are poised to revolutionize travel and logistics across India, providing faster, safer, and more efficient routes for both passengers and freight.
